Gloria Todd Jones is a master American painter with a well earned worldwide reputation. She was raised by her family in southern Alabama just as the civil rights movement was gaining strength in this country. She can recall hearing Reverend Martin Luther King preach in a small rural church and northern voter registration workers staying in her home. The family recognized her precocious gifts and at age four were able to purchase a piano for her use. Gloria promptly set about using the piano as an easel, selling drawings for a nickel each.
Following high school she attended and worked her way through the University of Pittsburgh, California State University, Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and received a BA Degree in Fine Arts from The California State University, Florence, Italy.
Gloria has traveled extensively, lived, studied and worked for extended periods of time in Mexico, Italy and Hawaii. She also worked and studied for briefer periods of time in Africa, Scotland, Greece and the Soviet Union.
Some of her major influences have been Diego Rivera and Freda Kalda, European Renaissance artists, Russian 20th Century Artist and African Tribal art.
In short Gloria’s work stands by itself, reaching out and touching the viewer, it is her language.
She has participated in numerous shows throughout the world including Universal Studios “Le Gallerie Hollywood”, Hollywood, CA, Yale University, New Haven, CT, American Express Headquarters Twin Towers, New York City, New York; Florence, Italy; San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Tokoyo, Japan; Brisbane, Australia, and Honolulu, Hawaii.
She has also made appearances at International Art Expos in New York, Chicago, New Orleans and Atlanta.
Gloria’s collectors are people of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. They include Universities, Religious Institutions, celebrated entertainment personalities, Educators, prominent business professionals and in short people of all rank and file.
She has been featured in various media events including television and radio programs, newspaper and magazine articles.
She has received a number of awards and honors from civil and professional organizations.
